wishes, lies, and dreams
In January 2013, composer Danny Clay and N6 members Justin, Amy, and Annie P put together two workshops to teach a class of seven ten-year-olds the art of authoring opera librettos. Amongst discussion of dramatic action and emotions, the students produced their own librettos, featuring sloths, alien cats, magical flowers, pickle beards, and more. Over the next couple of months, Danny composed the first set of movements featuring the librettos, tracing the main character Giatta's adventures in dreamworld. N6, with substitute violinist Otis Harriel, premiered wishes, lies, and dreams in a semi-staged setting at the SF Conservatory on May 9.
Here is an audio mash-up of excerpts from the new work. Check back in fall to hear about our progress re-staging and recording the new piece, and hear more of Danny's music on his bandcamp page or website.
